Thanks to all those who helped support our trip to California this past weekend. We had a successful trip and gained some great experience. All distance (cross country) kids will now take a little 2 week break before we start things back up for indoor. Take this upcoming week entirely off to reset our minds and bodies. Get caught up with schoolwork and everything else you need to do. We do have the Egg Nog Challenge this Friday at the soccer field so you can go to that if you would like to.

As for the rest of the track team we will continue some training this week so follow the following schedule for practices this week:

Schedule for Sprints/Jumps/Throws/Hurdles

We will continue to practice the next few weeks until Christmas Break. We will really get into it when we come back from the break. A reminder for those doing outdoor track, you need to get your schedule changed to take the sports conditioning class 8th period next semester (track class).

Spread the word on indoor track and let's get some more people out. Let's have a great week.

Breakfast will be included at the hotel but you will need to bring additional money to pay for other meals. The only other expense you will need to pay for is your entry into the race. Right now the cost is $20 and you can sign up at the Footlocker West Regional site. Click on register and select your race (in order to qualify for the national meet you must place top 10 in the seeded race). The price will go up on the 11th of November so please make sure to sign up early. We will talk more about this at the banquet.

Davis County Championships

Great job to everyone at the race last week at Murray. Despite being tired and beat up from workouts and racing on a slower course than Weber State we did quite well. It was fun to compare individual times from the longer slower course and see some individuals still improving their time. Keep up the hard work!! We just have a little bit longer of some tough tiring weeks and then we will begin our taper and start backing off to help feel fresh come race day. You'll notice that we have one race this week and it's on Wednesday. Please refer to the schedule for all info on the bus and meet.

A big thanks to the Lawson family for letting us do our team dinner at their home. Also thanks to Jefferies, Hill, Fulton, and Fisher families for the help. This week we will have our team dinner on Tuesday at the Haven home (59 W 1800 S Kaysville).

**I have created a google photo album to store pictures you take during meets. If you have any pictures from any meets please go to this link and upload them.

If you are interested in purchasing a Farmington XC yard sign please do so by Friday (09/14) as that will be the last day the Wall's will be collecting money for those signs. Either give the money ($10) to Adam Wall at practice or contact Cecilie Wall at 801.725.9830.

September is Here

What a great week we had last week. We had some great workouts and we ran some awesome times at the meet Friday in Ogden. I was proud again to be a phoenix. Keep up the hard work and doing all the little things. I also want to let you all know that I have received some very good feedback from other teams and their parents on how nice our team is to cheer for others and how we are very classy. Thank you for being great kids. When it's time to compete we go give it our all but we can be classy while we are at meets so thank you for being great teammates to one another and for showing good sportsmanship cheering on other teams.

Thanks to the Thornton's for letting us use their home for the team dinner last week (and thanks to the Haven, Spackman, and Vasquez families).

Now one thing I would like to comment on is that of riding the buses to and from meets. I know that it's hard to miss classes for meets but we don't miss super often and we don't have that long of a season. I apologize for the change in schedule for some of you parents going to the meet Friday but sometimes that happens and they switch things up. It doesn't happen often but it's reason like that why I want all the kids on the bus so you are there ready to warm up and be ready to go for your race. If for whatever reason you aren't going to be riding the bus you NEED to tell one of us coaches. I was at the meet with a handful of bibs of kids who didn't ride the bus and none of us coaches knew if they were coming to race or not. Please communicate with us if you can't make the bus for whatever reason.

End of August

Phoenix Nation!!!

What a great week we had. We had a tough week with two races and a hard workout on Monday and we still ran very well on Friday. The hard work you are putting forth is starting to show and we are only seeing a glimpse of it all (we haven't even done much speed work and we aren't tapering so when we put those things out there we will really kill it). We have to keep up the good work by doing all the little things (sleep, hydration, nutrition, going to practice, logging on Strava etc). Big thanks to the Neuenschwanders for letting us do our team dinner at their house and thanks to everyone who helped with it as well (Bowcut, Taylor, Peterson, Hildreth families).

This week we have a good solid week of training and the Weber State invite at El Monte Golf Course. Please pay attention to the times for practices and the meet. We also have a team dinner at the Thornton home on Thursday.

School is HERE!!!

Phoenix nation.....

Great first meet at Highland on Friday. I thought we had a great first meet with a good showing and hopefully things we learned. If you haven't already, reflect back on Friday to your race and I want you to think of things you thought you did well and things you could have improved (water intake before, sleep, going out too fast, not fast enough etc.). Those of you who missed the race, we missed you but we have a busy week coming up.

Hopefully you all had fun at the team dinner last week. A big Thanks to all who helped with the team dinner (Mitchell, Mietus, DiReda, Wall, & Martineau Families). This week's team dinner will be at the Neuenschwander home (707 W. Pegasus Drive - Kaysville) @ 6 PM. Bring $3! If you haven't signed up yet to help out but would still like to go HERE and find an open slot to help out. Thanks!

This week is going to be busy with school starting and the fact that we have 2 meets the same week (this is the only time we will have 2 in one week). So please make sure you are staying hydrated and are getting some good sleep. Here is the schedule:

Tuesday August 21st: 3:15 PM @ Barnes Park (950 W 200 N - Kaysville)

If you need spikes and you pay in cash you will receive a 20% discount (if you pay in cash you can actually get 20% off anything in the store). If you don't pay in cash but pay with a card you can still get 20% but you will need to buy a pair of running shoes and spikes. This is optional but a great opportunity if you would like some racing spikes. Thanks!!

If you still need to pay for spirit pack things please do so at the front office tomorrow and either bring me the receipt or leave it in my box at the office. Thanks!!

First Race Week

THANK YOU to everyone who helped out with the Phoenix 5k yesterday. It was a big success and that was only made possible to all of you guys who got prizes, sponsors, and helped set up/take down and run the meet. I would say with it being our first year it went pretty awesome. So thank you to everyone who helped (athletes and parents).

This week is our first race (Friday) so we have another busy week coming up. Please make sure you are eating well, sleeping, hydrating, stretching, logging run on Strava and coming to practice. All the little things make a big difference so don't neglect to do them just because they are small. Having said that, here is the schedule for the week (please pay attention to the times as we will be meeting at different times than usual):

Monday August 13th: Time Trials @ 7 PM @ Farmington High School - We will have a brief parent meeting at 7 pm. Following the parent meeting we will do a 2 mile race on the track. Girls will go first, then the boys. This race will determine our varsity for our first meet. Families are welcome to come and watch. Following the conclusion of our time trials we will watch a movie on the track on a projector (bring a camping chair to sit in if you'd like to avoid sitting on the track). We will also be doing a pot luck treat night so if you want to help bring a snack/fruit/veggie tray or whatever feel free to do so. Thanks!

Tuesday August 14th: 4 PM @ Forbush Park (Across from Farmington Jr)

Wednesday August 15th: 4 PM @ Nicholls Park (Castle Park in Kaysville/Fruit Heights)

Thursday August 16th: 3 PM @ Heritage Park (North of Maverik)

**Please plan on staying for the whole meet to cheer on our team.

Saturday August 18th: 7 AM @ Glovers Park (West of the High School)

Thanks again for all you guys do. We are going to have a blast this season and turn some heads while doing it. I know I have been harping on eligibility but if you want to race this Friday I need all of your eligibility stuff by tomorrow night so I can get you cleared to race Friday. Our uniforms should be in early this week so we will be passing those out probably Wednesday or Thursday (for those who are eligible and have paid for their uniform).

Last thing, we still have some openings for help with team dinners so if you are interested in helping out. Click THIS LINK to sign up for a day to help out. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this please contact Marcia Mitchell: (801) 455-8478  marciammitchell@gmail.com

Let's have a GREAT week Phoenix Nation!!

Phoenix 5k Week

Hey Phoenix Nation!!

This is a big week for us for many reasons. 1. It's our Phoenix 5k fundraiser. 2. Your eligibility is due. 3. It's our last full training week before our first race. Here is the skinny on these three things:

1. Phoenix 5k. I have only had about 5 people bring me their prizes so far. Please get out and collect your 5 prizes for the race this Saturday. Bring them to practice so we can organize them before the race Saturday. We've already hit up Subway, Waffled, Wasatch Running, Arbys, and Dollar Cuts. So let's avoid going to those places as they have already donated to our cause. Also please spread the word to your family/friends/community to come support us Saturday. If you don't get your prizes, I will charge you to race on Saturday.
I also need some parent help with a few things the day of the race so if you are willing to help us out and don't mind not running, please email me and let me know you're interested in helping Saturday and I will give you an assignment: cbrower@dsdmail.net. Thanks!!

2. Eligibility. This was suppose to be turned in last week and I only have 12 of you who have done everything and are eligible to race!! Please don't procrastinate this or you won't be running with us. Please go to the eligibility page and complete each step listed there. I need hard copies of physicals and receipts of fees ($140 - participation/transportation/uniform). I need this done ASAP!!

3. This week we will meet every day. We can't be missing days of running because it is seriously crunch time. Log your runs to Strava, stretch, roll out, stay hydrated and stay caught up with your sleep (8-9 hours a night). It's the little things that make a big difference. Here is the schedule for the week:

Monday August 6th: 7 AM @ Skater Park (1384 S Frontage Rd, Farmington)

Tuesday August 7th: 7 AM - Farmington Park (294 S 650 W, Farmington) - Just North of the school

***Wednesday August 8th: 7 AM ***Girls will meet @ Ponds Park *** Boys will meet @ Heritage Park (Farmington) - North of Maverik

Thursday August 9th: 7 AM @ Freedom Hills Park (2150 N 150 E, Centerville)

Friday August 10th: 7 AM - Farmington High School (East of the track - Drivers ed range)

Saturday August 11h: Be there at 6:15 AM - Race @ 7 AM - Farmington High School

One last thing, we would like to get planning some team dinners (on the days before our races) and would like to ask for your help in hosting and providing the meals for these. Marcia Mitchell has graciously accepted to take on organizing these. If you are interested in helping out click this link and fill out your information on the dates you would be interested in helping out and she will be in touch with you.

Thanks for your support. We are excited for the season!! Let's have a great week!

Camp Week

Hey Phoenix!

This week is camp week and I want to make sure everyone who is going knows what they need to do. Again, camp is optional, but if you do want to go, print off the form found HERE and fill it out. Bring that form signed by your parents with your money to camp tomorrow morning. We will collect those forms and money as you arrive. So if you were on the fence about it and still want to go you can still come. Please make sure to pack everything you will need for the over night camp (running stuff, sleeping bag, pillow, tent - or tent arrangements). If you are going to camp, I will see you in the morning (again you need your own ride to camp and from camp - pickup will be in Logan - not where you were dropped off so plan accordingly).

If you aren't going to camp, we will do an unofficial practice Monday morning for those that would like to meet up to run with others. Make sure to get some runs in Monday and Tuesday and we will resume practice as usual on Wednesday. Here is the schedule for the week:

Monday July 30th: 7 AM @ Ponds Park (North Lot) - For those who aren't going to camp but would like to meet up with others to run. I will not be there so show up, wait for a few minutes and go for a 4-5 mile run.

Tuesday July 31st: 6 PM - 9 PM Farmington High School - Physical night at the high school. If you need a physical, please come during this time and get your physical done for only $25. Way easy to crank it out. It will be good for the entire school year.

Wednesday August 1st: 7AM @ Heritage Park (1591 N 1075 W, Farmington)

Friday August 3rd: 7AM @ Forbush Park (100 Main St, Farmington)

Saturday August 4th: 7AM @ Glovers Park (1100 W Glovers Ln, Farmington)

A few more reminders. First, take care of your eligibility stuff. We need to get on this so if you need a physical come on Tuesday, and make sure to complete all the steps on the eligibility page. Second, please get your prizes collected if you haven't already. You can start bringing those to practice with you and giving them to me so I can start to organize the prizes in preparation for our race. Please get on this to help make our race a fun one. Third, I have worked out a way with our t-shirt guy to give us more time to get more sponsors for our race. If you haven't gotten sponsors yet, you still have time. We can still get their name or logo on our shirts up until the end of this week so please have your logos to me by Friday August 3rd to make sure their logo is on our shirts. Thanks for all you guys do. The season is fast approaching and we need to get serious. Keep up the good work.

Nearing the End of July

Hey Phoenix!!

We are here to the last full week of July. The season is quickly approaching so we need to get serious about our training and making a big effort to be at practice as much as possible. Also you need to get on your sponsors and prizes for the fun run. If you have any sponsors donating over $200 we need to get their logos so we can put it on our shirts. Please send me their logos by Wednesday July 25th to make sure they get it on our shirts (cbrower@dsdmail.net).

Other news, we are planning on a cross country camp on July 30th-31st up in the Wellsville mountains. I know this is last minute and it is not mandatory to go but if you are interested in going you will need to find your own ride to and from camp. Here is the link to the information on camp. In the link is the form you need to print and bring with you to camp. The cost is $50 and it covers meals, t-shirt, and swimming. All the details are in the link so make sure to look at that. I will try to get a count on Monday so I know roughly how many to plan on so talk to your parents, check your calendars and let me know if you are interested in going.

Alright here is the schedule for practice this week:

Monday July 23rd: 7 AM @ Glovers Park (1100 W Glovers Ln, Farmington - Just West of the school)

Wednesday July 25th: 7 AM @ Nicholls Park (1105 Nicholls Rd, Fruit Heights)

Friday July 27th: 7AM @ Ponds Park (North Lot)

We won't have practice on Tuesday due to the holiday but make sure to get out and run. REMEMBER TO LOG YOUR RUNS ON STRAVA PLEASE!!!

Sponsor Update

Hey guys,

So here is the skinny with sponsors. If you have sponsors that would like to donate and are donating an amount smaller than $250, then you can take your check (made out to "Farmington High School Cross Country") to the school and give it to Susan Spencer (head secretary) and you can get a "receipt" to give back to sponsors for their records. If they are donating an amount of $250 or more, then bring the check to Susan Spencer and we will send it to the Davis Foundation where sponsors will get an official thank you and receipt. Also, if a company is donating over $200 then ask them for a logo of their company and we will get it on the back of our race shirt.

They can email me their logos at: cbrower@dsdmail.net

I need their logos by the 26th of JULY to make sure they get it on the shirt.

Also, make sure to tell me how much money (from sponsors) you brought in, then I will make sure you get 50% of it back to help you pay for fees/gear.

Thanks for all of your help, guys. I couldn't do any of this without you and your support!

GO PHOENIX!!

Week of July 16th-21st

We had another great week of training last week and had some great performances at the Farmington Days races on Saturday. Thank you to those who are logging your runs daily on Strava and who have their waiver signed, fees paid and who have started on our fundraiser (Phoenix 5k). If you haven't been to practice we are asking that each of you get prizes and sponsors to help donate to our fun run on August 11th. Specifics are posted on the "Phoenix 5k" page. I will be getting info on receipts and tax information for sponsors so check the blog later this week to find more info on that.

With another week having come and gone we are another week closer to our season. We are about a month away from our first race. We need to be serious about our training and get started on our eligibility. If you haven't already please go to the "Eligibility" page and make sure you complete those steps as outlined. I need to have all of that completed and turned in to me for you to be eligible to race on the 17th of August. I need to have this in by August 3rd. For those that need to get a physical and can't get one scheduled before the season starts, the school is hosting a physical night for all Farmington athletes. On July 31st from 6-9 PM at the high school for only $25 you can get a physical done that will cover you for the year. All the money will go to the school and most of the time it's cheaper than another visit to your regular doctor. Take advantage of this great opportunity if you need to get a physical.

Alright, enough talk. Here is the schedule for the week:

Monday July 16th: 7 AM @ Heritage Park (1591 N 1075 W, Farmington)

Tuesday July 17th: 7 AM @ Farmington Ranches Park (136 W Ironside Way, Farmington)

Wednesday July 18th: 7 AM @ Vita Trail (1533 E. 650 N. Fruit Heights)

Friday July 20th: 7 AM @ Forbush Park (100 Main St, Farmington)

Let's have a great week Phoenix!!

Back at it!!

Hey Farmington XC!!

I hope you had a great 4th of July and hopefully you all ran every day. A lot of you are still not posting your runs to Strava. Please fix that and LOG YOUR RUNS! It isn't that hard. We are getting closer to the season and we can't be slacking off. Before we know it it'll be season and we don't have time to build a base once the season starts. We are just over a month away from our first invitational (August 17th) so we need to get serious. Thanks to those who are running and logging on Strava.

This week we are going to be meeting an extra day so if you can make it we'd love to see you there. We are also going to change some locations a little bit so please pay attention to the following schedule:

Monday July 9th: 7 AM @ New Farmington Park Behind Farmington Gymnasium (294 S 650 W, Farmington) - It's on the West side of the road - Just North of the high school.

Tuesday July 10th: 7 AM @ Skater Park (1384 S Frontage Rd, Farmington)

Wednesday July 11th: 7 AM @ Vita Trail (1533 E. 650 N. Fruit Heights)

Friday July 13th: 7 AM @ Ponds Park

One thing I do want to bring to your attention is our Phoenix 5k - Fundraiser that we have coming up on August 11th. We need everyone to help to make this a great event. Please go to the Phoenix 5k -Fundraiser page for more information on that and to know what you need to do to help out.

Also if you haven't turned in your waiver for summer xc please get that in to me. I will have more at practices this week if you haven't gotten one yet. There are also some of you who haven't paid your $40 to the school so please get that taken care of this week. Let's have a great week!!

Sunday, July 1, 2018

Moratorium Week

This week we have moratorium all week which means we cannot have an organized practice together. This doesn't mean that you should take the week off and do nothing. You should still run 6 days this week and keep increasing your mileage. We've been training for 3 weeks now and we should slowly work our miles up about 5-10% a week (Example if I ran 20 miles last week I should increase my mileage to about 22 this week). Feel free to message other runners on the team and meet up to do group runs if you would like to, it's always easier to run with people.

This past Friday we had a team time trial for those who were there and it went very well. I am looking forward to seeing the progress we make as a team. Now we have a little bit of a reference point as to where we are at and can see our progress throughout the summer and into the season. We had a little breakfast afterwards and plan to do a bigger pancake breakfast in the future. There was some issues reserving the pavillion at Forbush park so we will make sure that isn't an issue in the future so we can have some awesome breakfasts.

This week is the 4th of July and as such there are a lot of 5k races out there that would be great to register and race. Please upload your runs onto Strava. Some of you do a really good job with that and some of you need to work on that so please upload all of your runs on Strava. Last thing, thank you to the 42 of you who have paid your $40 summer fee. If you haven't done so please go to the main office at Farmington High school or you can call Sue Spencer (head secretary) on the phone and take care of it that way. Thanks.

Let's have another great week of training and happy 4th of July on Wednesday. I will see you all on Monday the 9th.

Farmington XC Week 3

Week 2 was a great success and we are ready for more! Thanks to all of you who have been logging your miles on Strava. If you haven't been, repent and get on it. If you don't have a Strava account yet please get on there and get logging. We can't help you if you don't let us know what you are doing. Thanks to those who are running 6 days a week as well. Remember, just because we aren't meeting every day means that it is a day off. That being said here is the schedule for the week. Notice that this Friday we are meeting in a different location.

Monday June 25th: 7 AM @ Ponds Park (North Lot)

Wednesday June 27th: 7 AM @ Vita Trail (1533 E. 650 N. Fruit Heights)

Friday June 29th: 7 AM @ Forbush Park (100 Main St, Farmington, UT 84025)

Just a heads up on what is coming up next week. We have moratorium all week for the 4th of July so we will not be having practice at all. You should still plan on running every day and it would be good to find a 5k somewhere and go race. Keep taking care of yourselves (drinking water, stretching, getting sleep).

Also I added a "Follow By Email" Gadget at the bottom so if you would like to get an email each time a new post is added to the blog just drop your email in the box and hit submit.

XC Summer Week 2

Well, the first week is in the books. We had great turnouts and were excited to see all of you there. Thanks to those who have paid their $40. If you haven't paid, please do so (either go to the main office at the school or call Sue Spencer). For week 2 here is the schedule (same as last week):
Monday June 18th: 7 AM @ Ponds Park (North Lot)

Wednesday June 20th: 7 AM @ Vita Trail (1533 E. 650 N. Fruit Heights)

Friday June 22nd: 7 AM @ Ponds Park (North Lot)

Also a few friendly reminders:
*Log your runs on Strava (if you don't have an account, make one)
*Drink lots of water
*Run 6 days this week (not just the 3 days we meet)
*Run with a buddy (especially on Vita - we don't want people getting lost and remember trail etiquette)
Last and most important HAVE FUN!

Thanks guys let's have another great week.

Farmington XC is HERE!!!!

Hey Farmington Phoenix!!

It is that time of year so let's get started and build the best XC program here at Farmington High. Throughout the summer we will meet as a team on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Now just because we don't meet on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays doesn't mean you shouldn't run those days... because you should. We want to build a great base this summer so when the season starts we are ready to go. If you want to be great during the season you have to put in some miles this summer. Having said that here is the schedule for our first week of practice:

Summer Training Week 1
Monday June 11th: 7 AM @ Ponds Park (North Lot)

Wednesday June 13th: 7 AM @ Vita Trail (1533 E. 650 N. Fruit Heights)

Friday June 15th: 7 AM @ Ponds Park (North Lot)

The summer training is only $40 per athlete (8th and 9th graders are welcome). You can go directly to the school and pay the head secretary (Sue Spencer) or you can call and pay over the phone. Her number is 801-402-9054. Just make sure to let her know it is for XC and who the student athlete is. If you need to email her send it to: Sspencer@dsdmail.com

One last thing, if you are needing a new pair of shoes or spikes, all Farmington High athletes will get a 15% discount on running shoes and a 20% discount on spikes when you go to Wasatch Running Center in Centerville. Just let them know you run for Farmington and they will hook you up with some sweet discounts.

Welcome to Farmington XC & Track

We are excited to get started for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year and build a dynasty here at Farmington High School. For those that don't know or who aren't able to attend we will be holding a parent meeting on April 10th at 6:30 at the Community Arts Center in Farmington. We will discuss the upcoming schedule for this fall (which is posted on the schedule page) and other things . I'll post the info we discuss on here for those that aren't able to make it. We look forward to seeing you there.

We would like to get your contact information so we can communicate with you if needed. If you have a minute please fill out this contact information sheet.

We also want to get some feedback from you on a possible cross country camp this summer. There are different options we are considering and we want to know what would be of most interest to you. Please fill out this one question survey to state what you would like to do this summer as far as a team cross country camp goes. Thanks!!
