Track Meeting Recap

Did you miss the track meeting? Did you lose your notes? Below is the list of everything we covered at the meeting in case you missed it or need a refresher.

  • COVID-19 and Track & Field 2021
    • We are still planning on having an outdoor track season. What that will look like exactly is still up in the air. We will likely not have any indoor track meets as most have already been cancelled for January and February but when we move to outdoors we are still planning on holding a season. We will temperature check everyone at each practice and you will need to fill out our Covid-19 symptom check form each day.
  • Indoor Track
    • Indoor track is a big part of our preparations for outdoor track. We would love it, if you are interested in doing outdoor track, to come train with us for Indoor. If you are interested in doing indoor track with us here at Farmington High School please fill out this 2021 Indoor Track Sign up form.
    • We will have a $10 indoor track fee to help our program. Once you fill out the sign up form, we will invoice you on your MyDSD and you can pay for that fee there.
  • Track Class
    • We have an 8th period team conditioning class which is our "track class." If you are not in it, try to get your schedule switched so you can take that class with us.
    • We can get you fit for life credit if you need it. Just enroll in the 8th period class and let us know you need fit for life credit and we can enroll you in a Canvas class to get the credit.
    • While it is preferred that you join the track class, you can still do track even if you aren't in the class, you just might have workouts on your own after school on B days.
  • Practice
    • Practice will vary depending on your event coach. More info to come from your event coach. First day of indoor track practice will be Tuesday January 5th, 2021 @ 2:40 PM.
    • We will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays in January and as we get to February we will meet more often.
    • Once the season starts we will meet every day and it is expected for you to be there every day.
    • During the season practices on Mondays & Wednesdays will be at 2:40-5:00. Practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays will be from 1:10 PM - 3:30 PM. Check the blog weekly for any changes or specifics on practices.
  • Meet Schedule
    • Still waiting on official dates but it will likely be the same as it was going to be last year. There will be a few changes with invites per the current covid-19 protocols but we won't know more until we get closer. I will post the schedule to the schedule/results page as soon as I know so you can get work off and block out those important meet dates.
  • Eligibility
    • Get started now.
    • Due: Wednesday February 17th, 2021. Follow the steps listed and complete the necessary requirements in order to compete this season and school year. All eligibility paperwork and receipts need to be turned into Coach Brower.

      1. Register my Athlete - HERE

Track is Back!!

As we approach the new year we are coming up on our indoor track season. We are still unsure what that will look like for competitions during the winter months but we will still plan on holding practices to help us prepare for outdoor track. All those interested in joining our track team this year is welcome to attend our zoom track meeting which will be held on Wednesday December 16th at 6:00 PM. The link for that zoom is posted below. We will try to cover what we know with the season and track but, like everything else this year, we know things could change so stay tuned. If you aren't already, get into the 2nd semester 8th period team conditioning class (track class). We will have practice 2nd semester on B days during that track class. On A days we will have practice after school starting at 2:45 PM. If you need fit for life credit, drop that class and take team conditioning, we can get you fit for life credit.

For my XC or distance kids, we should start getting our mileage back up. Most of you know what your 100% weeks are, if you don't know because you are new, send me an email (cbrower@dsdmail.net). Below is the % progression we want you to build up to for the next few weeks before we start to meet together. See the chart below to know what mileage we need to be hitting. The idea behind the weekly mileage is that you split it up throughout the week. Don't do 2 super long runs on Friday/Saturday just to hit your mileage because you didn't run Mon-Thurs. Be smart and spread it out over the course of the week.

November 9th-14th - Two Week Break Begins!

Great job to everyone who competed at the Utah qualifier in Spanish Fork this weekend. It was a windy day but everyone ran really well on the 5k course. We saw a lot of kids set some PRs which is always fun to see. Congrats to our boys varsity team for taking 4th in a loaded field and qualifying for the Border wars on the 21st. The results can be found here: 2020 Utah Qualifier Results

We apologize for delaying the banquet. We still are not sure when we will be able to hold it so stay tuned for further information on that.

We just received word that the Border Wars have been cancelled. We apologize for this but at least we were able to get in most of the season this year. We will take our two week break now. No running this week. If you would like to cross train next week you are welcome to do so. We will still post a mileage progression to follow when we return to the training block but enjoy the time off and get a good reset in. More track info will be coming as we know more what that will look like, as for right now... there is a lot still up in the air. Thank you for being not only amazing athletes but amazing people. We love each one of you. See you guys during track season!!

Utah Qualifier - November 2nd -November 7th

Great job to all of you who are sticking with your training and getting your workouts in on your own. It's great to see so much activity on Strava. Please keep logging on Strava and keep up the good work. This week we have our Utah qualifier in Spanish Fork on Saturday. Registration will close on Monday evening (Tomorrow night) so if you haven't signed up yet, do so ASAP or you won't be able to race. As a reminder, you will need to find your own ride down to Spanish Fork and back, there will not be a bus. Please plan on arriving no later than 1 hour before your race so you have adequate time to pick up your bib and warm up. I also found out that there can be NO SPECTATORS at the race on Saturday. So if you get a ride from a parent, they are not allowed to go out and spectate. We will also not be able to meet for practice until we come back from the soft closure so we will post another workout for you on Tuesday in the GroupMe.

On banquet news, due to the increase in Covid cases, the school has asked us to postpone the cross country banquet. We will push it to December or possibly January depending on Covid cases and where we are at so stay tuned. We apologize for this but we want to make sure we are being good citizens and doing our part.

Here is the practice schedule this week:

STATE CHAMPS!! (Oct 26th - 31st)

Congrats to both our boys and girls this past week at State. Both our boys and girls did better than they were projected. On the girl side, they were projected to take 7th and ended up finishing only 8.5 points away from a 2nd place trophy and 1 away from 3rd, finishing 4th. The boys were projected to take 3rd and ran extremely well as a group to upset the #1 ranked Timberwolves from Timpanogos and become back to back 5A state champions. We are so proud of everyone on our team this year from our top Varsity kids down to our JV team. Everyone on the team helped contribute to the success of both our boys and girls. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. You are the best of the best!!! 2020 State XC Meet Results

To clarify a few things that happened last week with Covid, here is the situation. The school is still on closure for this week and because our State competition is over we cannot practice as a group. We will also not be able to host the Hoka meet on Friday. We can resume practices once we come back from the soft closure. So until that happens, we will be posting workouts through the GroupMe chat so look for those workouts to come on Tuesday and Thursday. Monday, Wednesday and Friday will all be recovery days. You are welcome to run on your own or gather in small groups to do the runs and workouts.

This Saturday, Viewmont high is hosting a Trick or Trot 5k race to support Viewmont Cross Country. If you are able we would like you to race at this 5k as a way to get in a race before next Saturday in Spanish Fork. We will use the race this weekend to help make a decision on our varsity team for the qualifier on the 7th. You can sign up for the race via Runnercard here: 2020 Trick or Trot 5k

For those who haven't signed up for the Utah Qualifier on November 7th in Spanish Fork, please do so sooner than later as you risk the meet reaching full capacity and you won't be able to enter. You will need to register yourself and find your own ride down there. The address to the race is 295 Volunteer Drive Spanish Fork, Utah. Races start at 9:30 AM and go until 2:00 PM. More info on this race and the link to register can be found here: 2020 Border Wars - Utah Qualifier. After this race the top 15 teams in the varsity races will go on to represent Utah in the Border Wars against the top 15 Colorado schools in St. George on November 21st. This will be a varsity only race and there will not be any JV races so this Utah qualifier on the 7th is the last and only post season race for JV.

Mileage:

JV Stay the same as you did last week (should be 90%)

Varsity, increase by 10% from last week.

October 19th - 24th - STATE

Hopefully everyone had a fun and safe fall break weekend. This week on Thursday is the state championships at Soldier Hollow. They still haven't come out with exact numbers on tickets but from the word going around it sounds like every athlete who is racing, they will get 2 tickets to give to whoever. Those tickets will need to be purchased (for free) online through the UHSAA ticket portal. Again there is still no official word so tickets are not available yet but as soon as I get word I will let you know. Unfortunately it sounds like we will not be able to have any additional team members attend except for those competing and the alternates.

We are still planning on our team banquet November 5th at 6:00 PM at the high school commons. This will be for athletes only (sorry parents and family). So we can have a head count, if you are planning on attending that banquet will you please go and fill this form out? 2020 Farmington XC Banquet. Thank you. Also if you have any pictures from the season you have not yet put up on the photo album please do so here: Farmington XC 2020 Photo Album.

We finally have some specifics on post season races. First we are planning on hosting a Hoka Postal Nationals meet on Friday October 30th at FHS. We are throwing this together this week so more details to come but it will be at the FHS track. There will also be a Utah qualifier on November 7th down in Spanish Fork. This will be for anyone who would like to race.

October 12th - 17th (Fall Break)

Congrats to our varsity boys and girls teams this past week. Our girls placed 3rd in their divisional race and our boys took 2nd. This qualifies them both to the state meet coming up on the 22nd of October. The state meet will be held at soldier hollow. Ticket information is still TBA but I do know that spectators will still be allowed at the state meet but a ticket must be purchased through the state online ticket portal. I believe tickets will be free but I'm not sure if we as a team will get a certain amount or if it will be a first come first serve basis. I would follow UHSAA closely but I will try to notify you as soon as I hear more. Tickets are not currently available but will be sometime this week. We will only be taking one bus for the varsity teams so those that would like to attend will need to find their own ride down and back.

We will still plan on our awards banquet on November 5th for athletes ONLY due to the Covid-19 virus. Put that day on your calendars and also put November 7th and November 21st for possible days for post season races. There is talk now that the Utah State Qualifier will be in Pleasant Grove on the 7th and the Border Wars with Colorado will be in St. George on the 21st. Things have been back and forth and I'm hoping to know more this week but put those days on your calendar for potential post season races. These are totally optional and would not be school sponsored meaning you would need to find your own ride to and from. More info to come.

This week is Fall break and we will meet a few days so those that are in town can meet up with us. I will post the workouts in the GroupMe for those that will be out of town so if you aren't in the GroupMe let us know and we can get you added.

October 5th - 10th - Divisonals

Great job Farmington Phoenix at the region 5 cross country championships!! We had some amazing performances all around and it was a fun day to be a Phoenix. We swept all 4 races and saw some kids set some awesome PRs. WAY TO BE!! Here are the results: 2020 Region 5 XC Championships

We also want to give a BIG shout out to all of the parents who helped make our team dinner possible. The food was amazing and it went very smoothly. Thank you for being understanding of the year and for giving the team some of the fun parts of being on the XC team. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!

We still are unsure what the postseason of cross country will look like at this point. Some of you may have other sports you are doing and you are now able to go to those other things you have going on. Those that want to keep training, we would still welcome you to practice anytime you would like to come. In the event that we do have a post-season race it would be great to stay in shape for something like that. We won't take our break until the end of November so you are welcome to keep training if you would like but it is not required at this point to keep coming.

We are still planning on doing a team banquet this year, but due to Covid we will need to reduce the numbers attending. To keep numbers down we will just invite the athletes to attend the banquet. I apologize to all parents and families as I would love to have you be there but to keep our numbers down in attendance we will only be allowed to have the athletes join. We are planning on doing our banquet on Thursday November 5th, 2020 at 6:00 PM at the high school commons. More details to come as we get closer.

This week we have our region championships on Friday at the Weber County Fairgrounds. For most of you, this will be the last race of the regular season. With our post season plans so up in the air, this might be your last race so let's make sure we do all the little things this week to take care of ourselves to do the best we can.

We will also be doing a "Team Dinner" on Thursday right after practice just at the school. That way we can keep our distance from one another and still eat together as a team. We don't really have things set yet but we have had lots of requests from parents to help out so if you are interested in helping out, please sign up on this link here. 2020 Region Team Dinner Sign-Up. Great job to everyone at the Davis District Championships this past Wednesday. Everyone represented Farmington well with the way you performed and you represented Farmington well with the way you cheered for your teammates and other competitors. Thank you for being great kids and a much better job with your mask wearing so thank you for that. Results can be found here: Davis District Championships 2020

We only have a few weeks left the season for most of you so let's make sure we are taking care of ourselves the best we can. Sleep, hydration, nutrition, stretching, rolling out etc. We also need to be SO SO careful with everything we do and who we are around. We have made it this far but with the influx in Covid cases the past week we need to keep doing our part to continue having our season and being safe. Thank you for all of your efforts!

This week we have decided to forgo the Wednesday dual meet at Box Elder as we now are racing Friday night down in American Fork at the Art Dye Park. There will be 4 races, JV races and Varsity races (Top 10). Results can be found here or on the schedule/results page: 2020 Wasatch Invite

Thank you for wearing masks at practice and at the meets. I know it's a pain but it's how we are continuing to have a season. As a reminder for when we are at meets, you do not need to wear it when warming up and cooling down but if you are cooling down and cheering, when you stop a cheer and stand around, you need to put that mask back on. Perhaps you should take your mask with you when cooling down.

This week we have the Davis District Championships on Wednesday at Layton park. I haven't seen anything about prohibiting spectators so if parents want to come just make sure they are wearing a mask. See below for details on race times. Unfortunately this year there will not be an alumni/parents/friends race.

Please make sure you are at practice everyday, even if you are injured you should still be there. You are still on the team so please come for Core and announcements then you can go and cross train as directed by one of the coaches. For a lot of you we only have 3 weeks left of the season. Please make sure you are giving it your all and you are taking care of yourself.

We have another dual against Viewmont on Wednesday. Again we invite parents and spectators to come but they MUST be wearing masks. We got in trouble because we had some parents and athletes without masks on and we need to clean that up if we want to continue to have a season this year. Please wear your masks!!

We also have a meet on Saturday at Lakeside park in Orem (Vineyard). Unfortunately parents are not allowed to attend that meet as there are a lot of athletes and numbers need to be reduced at the park. We will leave early Saturday morning at 5:45 AM - bring a pillow. Please don't be late. We will return around 1:30 back to the school. Please let me know if you won't be able to attend as it is Labor day weekend. If your parents want to watch you race we will have a live stream on our Instagram page.

At our meet on September 12th (a week from Saturday) everyone needs to fill out a participation form to compete at Soldier Hollow. You MUST fill out this Soldier Hollow Waiver by Thursday night if you want to compete at the Wasatch Invite.  I can't verify if you have filled it out or not so please make sure you do this!

Aug. 24th - 29th - Home JV Meet

School is starting this week and we are pumped to finally have a race we can take the whole team to. This Wednesday we have a home JV dual against Bonneville high. There will just be two races (Girls and Boys) and it will be on our campus. Spectators are welcome as long as they have masks on (Required) and keep socially distant during the race. Girls start time is 3:30 PM and boys at 4:15 PM.

This past Friday our boys and girls varsity teams competed at the region 5 pre-region meet. Both the boys and girls teams won the meet and had another great showing. Results for that race can be found here: Pre-Region 2020 Results.

With School starting up this week practices will be more mandatory now. You should not have work scheduled during our practice times (3-5) so if you choose to work during the season do what you need to and get that time off. Please make sure you are coming to practice and talk to a coach if there is an emergent thing that comes up.

Uniforms will be passed out at practice on Tuesday for those who have purchased their uniform and are eligible to compete on Wednesday. If you are new to the program and don't have a uniform it should be on your MyDSD ($65). If it isn't you can go to the office and pay for it or email me and I can put it on your MyDSD to pay online.

If you order gear from the team store it should be here sometime this week. I will keep you posted as soon as I have more info.

Also, Jessica Taylor and Marcia Mitchell are working on doing some yard signs for the team. They will cost $15 and payments will be done to Jessica Taylor (Brooke's Mom). They will have Farmington XC on them and your name. If you are interested in buying a yard sign please fill out this form and indicate what you want on the sign. 2020 XC Yard Sign. Payment made via Venmo to Jessica Taylor at: @jessicataylor_4

Thanks!

Aug 17th - 22nd - Pre-Region

Both our boys and girls varsity teams took home the win at our meet on Saturday. We had 5 girls in the top 10 and all 7 of our boys in the top 10. They had a great showing and represented Farmington well. The results can be found here: 2020 Premier Invite.

We had a great week of training this past week and hopefully you have acclimated yourself to the heat. This week we have another great week of heat training. Please make sure you are hydrating and taking care of yourself. Roll out and stretch. Get sleep. Eat a well balanced diet. All the things.

This week we have our pre-region meet. Unfortunately we are only able to take top 10 to the race and we can't have any spectators/parents attend the race. We apologize for this but the region voted and decided they wanted to be extra careful to not jeopardize losing Weber County Fairgrounds as our region site.

July 27th - Aug. 1st

We hope everyone had a safe and fun Pioneer day weekend. Great job to everyone who was in town and came to practice on Friday. We saw some great times posted with lots of improvements. Check out the "Nerd Report" on the tabs to the left to see your improvement if you can't remember. We had not only a new boys course record set but we had 3 boys beat the previous course record. We've done all this with mostly just base work. Keep being consistent and we'll see some wonderful things happen this season.

Camp registration has closed and we have a good group going. Here is the Map and Itinerary for camp as well as the actual registration form. I need everyone to bring me the 3rd page printed and filled out to practice this week before we go to camp next Monday (the 3rd). In addition to running attire and other play clothes you will be responsible for bringing your own tents/pads and sleeping bags and/or pillows and blankets to sleep. Boys and girls will have different camp locations. If you aren't able to bring a big tent to be socially distant from your neighbors, bring your own tent to make sure we aren't getting too close to others at the camp. Pack your masks!!

We also have the Phoenix 5k coming up in under two weeks (August 8th). If you haven't yet, please go on and fill out the 2020 Phoenix 5k Registration Form so I know who is planning on going. Start bringing those prizes in to practice and get those sponsors coming in. I need to have all the sponsors logos in to me by Thursday night to ensure they get on our t shirts.

ELIGIBILITY - If you need a physical tomorrow night (Monday July 27th) there is a fall sports physical night for only $25. All the funds go back to the school. This is actually going to be at the high school in the wrestling room at 6:00 PM. This is a fast and easy way to get your physical for the year knocked out. If you aren't going to go, make sure you have a physical scheduled with your doctor ASAP as eligibility is due on August 5th. Go on and get your Register My Athlete done.

We are under 4 weeks away from our Phoenix 5k. August 8th is the date. Race starts at 7 AM. Tell your friends and start getting prizes/sponsors. Go to the Phoenix 5k Page for more info. Thanks again for those logging their miles on Strava. Please please please make sure you log all of your runs. If you have any issues or questions about your training or injuries don't hesitate to ask one of the coaches. That's why we are here!!

A few reminders about the Corona Virus. We need to make sure we do our part. We are the Farmington Phoenix and we lead by example (especially the cross country team). We need to remember to follow social distancing guidelines at all times (Before practice, during core, runs, stretching). We are planning on still having our season this year but all it will take is a few not taking this seriously and we may likely see ourselves without a season. Regardless of how you feel personally, please don't jeopardize the health and safety of others and potentially our season. If we could do a little better about our social distancing that would be great. You guys are the BEST!

Mileage wise this week will depend on how you are feeling. If you are feeling a little tired this week, keep your mileage the same as last week. If you are feeling okay, increase it 10% from last week.

July 6th - July 11th

Hey Phoenix XC!! Hopefully everyone had a great 4th of July and stayed safe. We are back at it this week so hopefully you didn't take last week off..... If you forgot to log your miles from last week on Strava, please go on and do that. Keep coming to practice as much as you can and if you can't make it talk to a coach and get your runs in wherever you go.

A few things to put on your radar. I am trying to finalize things for a cross country camp and I may have found a place that we can go and camp out but it would be a week later than originally planned. This would be an optional camp like before but would be on Monday August 3rd until Tuesday August 4th. We may still likely do some camp type things close by on July 27th-29th but we will likely not do any overnight camping until August 3rd. More details to come as things are finalized and final approval is given but that is what we are looking at for camp so if you can mark those days on your calendar that would be great.

The Phoenix 5k is August 8th, 2020. We are still planning on it and we need to start getting word out. Talk to your friends and family and get them to come (Flyer Coming Soon). We also need to start getting sponsors and prizes for the race. Go to the Phoenix 5k page for more info on what to do but we need to get on this ASAP. It will be here before we know it.
