6/25 update

Phoenix,

Kinda strange to think that we are basically half way done with summer (almost). I say that to hopefully give you a sense of urgency. If we are going to contend for region and state championships, we have no time to lose. Great teams are built in the summer. Think of ways that you can be better, and do them. Encourage your teammates to do the same.

Many of you are having an outstanding summer. You're building up consistently, doing the strides and hill sprints, and you'll reap the benefit of these miles soon, but even more so in the fall. Many of you have been out of town or on youth activities, and have done your best to run while there; for that I commend you. Many yet have missed days due to a lack of motivation, which is something that we need to work on. The two key terms are motivation and discipline. Some days you're highly motivated, so you get out and go. Other days you aren't as hyped about it, so you need to fall back on your discipline to still get out and run. Your future self will thank you. Be more disciplined to carry you through the days you aren't feeling motivated. On Tuesday we are going to set individual and team goals which will hopefully help dial in our motivation.

This Week

Moratorium begins this Wednesday and continues until Wednesday 7/5. We will practice Monday and Tuesday of this week, and then pick back up at Vita next Wednesday 7/5.

Monday will be a standard practice, this time meeting at the regional park. Feel free to bring your pickleball paddles to play afterward if you'd like.

Tuesday is going to be a bit more strenuous than our typical runs. We will be doing a time trial/progressive tempo. Anyone who is racing on the 4th of July will do a progressive run. Anyone not doing a race next week will do a time trial on Tuesday.

After practice a few parents have kindly volunteered to provide the team with breakfast. The run and breakfast will be at Forbush Park. If you can, bring $2 to help offset costs. We will warm up beginning at 7, do our workout, cool down, abs, then breakfast around 8:30ish. We will also have a goal setting opportunity, so be thinking about individual and team goals you'd like to achieve this year.

Coming up

4th of July

If you'd like to race at the Kaysville 4th of July, you can go to Bowman's to get a $10 code.

Wednesday 7/5 - Family Day at Vita

Next Wednesday we will be practicing at Vita, as usual, but I want to make it "Family Day" so family members can join us in running on the trail, to get out and run, or see what the fuss of Vita is all about, Parents, feel free to come along!

Farmington Festival Days 7/15

On July 15th Farmington holds a 5k and 10k race, followed by a French Toast breakfast, included for those who race. It's one of my favorite events of the year, and I encourage you to participate if you can. It's honestly so awesome.

Deseret News team 10k and races

On the 24th of July they hold a Team 10k race, where teams of 4 high schoolers (3 scoring) can race for a team trophy. The top 3 teams will medals and prizes, with the top team getting a trophy sponsored by REP.

From Talley, the race director:

"We offer a great discount to high school runners and coaches. Use the promo code "DNHS23" to keep the 10k Cost at $40 up until registration closes. You can also use the promo for $15 off the half marathon if you want to run longer or for the 5k for your beginning runners."

You can register at at Run.Deseret.com If you want to do the team 10k I need you to tell me so I can contact the person over the high school event to make sure they have our team down. We can enter multiple teams as well. Let me know if you have questions about that.

Looking forward to a great couple of days this week.

Let me know if you have any questions.

6/18 update

Phoenix,

I want to thank everyone who helped with the Jr. Phoenix Track Camp over the bast few days. It's like a 8 hour commitment over the 3 days, but it's a good fundraiser for our program. It will help us buy hurdles, poles, blocks, flags, etc.

The schedule this week is somewhat different. We won't be practicing tomorrow due to the holiday, so we will instead practice Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday. See below for the locations. Maps will be uploaded in before Tuesday.

Not all of you have filled out the form for the summer t-shirt (included in your $50 summer fee (which I haven't uploaded yet, but will soon)), so if you haven't, please fill out this form. This will be the last call, so you might get stuck with the wrong size if you don't fill it out.

As always, if you have any questions please let me know.

Coach Jacobson
