2/18 Update

Phoenix,

A great group of kids/athletes went up to Simplot this past weekend to compete. That meet is always a lot of fun. We had 30 or so kids compete over the 3 days, with 4 individuals in finals: Sahara, 60H; Skye, 1600m; Bode, 400m; Izaac, 800m. We also had two medley relay teams make it, with the boys finishing 4th overall.

That meet is a great opportunity to race on a fast track, spend time with teammates, see some of the countries best athletes, run in relays with sprinters and distance runners together (medley), and get yourself geared up for the start of the outdoor season.

Next year our team goal is to have 50 or more kids compete at Simplot, with at least 12 relay teams (4x200, Medley, 4x400, and 4x800), and get twice as many people and teams to finals. To make that happen I will book hotel rooms well in advance to get the best rate possible, and we will need parents who are willing to join us on the trip to drive kids up, back, and to help shuttle kids to the arena in the morning/evening, and to get meals, etc. The vast majority of the time will be spent at the arena.

Upcoming

This week we will be practicing together on Tuesday-Thursday. Next week we will officially begin our outdoor season on Monday, at which point all of our practices will be mandatory, and we will meet Monday-Friday with rare exception.

During the meeting we will introduce our staff and talk about expectations, volunteers, registration, and the season schedule. I hope to be no more than 30 minutes - with some time for questions for event coaches.

Parent Meeting

We are going to be holding a parent meeting on Monday 2/26 at 6 PM in the little theater at FHS. You can get there easiest by parking in the west lot, going in the doors by the main gym, and taking your first right towards the main office - the little theater is that first room in that hallway, immediately across from the elevator, you can see the room from the main gym doors.

Registration

Everyone participating in high school sports needs to complete registration through "register my athlete." Please view this page to see what needs to be done, especially if you are new to it. https://farmingtontrack.blogspot.com/p/register-my-athlete.html

If you have any questions please let me know.

2/11 Update

Phoenix,

Another week closer to the official start of the outdoor season, which will be on 2/26. A few things to know prior to that are below.

Registration

Everyone needs to complete registration at Register My Athlete. This will include a few minutes of preparation and a physical. The physical is the most time consuming part, and it is important that you take the form from the website to the Dr. and that you upload the ENTIRE FORM (all 3 pages) to the website once it's been filled out. Where people go wrong is not uploading the entire 3 pages.

If you've never done registration on that site before please view a walk through I've put together here: Registration instructions

Simplot

A group of athletes are headed up to Simplot this weekend, and we have a few opportunities for kids and relay teams to make finals. Anyone who is in a relay is expected to work handoffs everyday this week.

One of the tricky parts of Simplot is that the track is made out of wood and they don't allow spikes on the first two days of the meet. In finals on Saturday you can wear spikes (they have pin spikes available for purchase there).

So, on Thursday and Friday, if you have spikes that are plastic on the bottom, they won't be functional. Therefore your options are either wear your regular running shoes (not ideal) or wear cross country flats that have rubber tread along the entire shoe.

If any of you cross country kids have flats that could be borrowed by a teammate, please let us know. If you have older siblings who have flats that are no longer used, raid their closets are borrow them too.

This week

This week we'll be practicing after school on Monday and Wednesday. Let us maximize each opportunity that we have to get better.

If you have any questions please let me know.

2/4 update

Phoenix,

It's starting to feel like spring outside (and just as I say that it'll probably start to snow on us), so we've had some really good days outside on the track this past week. While our B-day practices have been solid, we need more people to start coming on A days after school so we can improve our entire team. This week I encourage you to come on Tuesday/Thursday (A days) after school to get some work in.

This week

Phoenix Preview (when incoming sophomores come in to check out the programs) is on Tuesday from 4:30-6:30. We could use a group of you to come hang out at the track/xc table to advertise for us. I'll be at the psychology spot, but the kids would rather talk to you than me anyway tbh.

We will be practicing after school on Tuesday/Thursday as mentioned above.

There is another indoor meet at the olympic oval on Friday night. The meet information is on Meettrax and can be found here.

Simplot Games

Simplot is rapidly approaching, and I have dropped the majority of the rooms. We have 5 remaining, and I'm going to drop those on Tuesday unless those wanting to stay in the hotel have a plan for transportation up to Pocatello and to and from the arena. If any parents want the rooms, let me know. It's the Best Western in Pocatello. Feel free to call around up there to find rooms on your own if you'd like.

That said, we need to start getting everyone registered for Simplot, so I have yet another form for you to fill out to let me know which individual event you'd like to compete in. You only get one individual event.

If you'd like to be considered for a relay on Friday, indicate it on the form above. We have a few teams that can make finals.

The above form needs to be filled out this weekend. I will be done registering athletes on Friday 2/9 at 9 AM.

Snow Canyon

We await final confirmation on Snow Canyon, but it looks like it's happening. We're going to be able to take almost everyone who said they would for sure go on the bus and stay in hotels (you know who you are at this point, based on personal conversations you've had with me). I'm hoping to find a way to each of you in. Stay tuned for further information.

Outdoor Schedule

You can find our outdoor schedule at the top of this page, or at the link below.
