9/4 Update

Phoenix,

Another week down and we are finally in to September (although with the current rash of heat it feels more like July, but oh well). I hope you enjoy your Labor Day weekend.

Meet information

We will be going to the Spartan Invitational on Friday afternoon. The bus will be leaving at 1:30 PM, you'll be excused at 1:15.

At the end of this page you'll find the preliminary meet entries. Again, let me know if you aren't on there, or if you shouldn't be on there, or if there is some other mistake.

If you have junior high/elementary age sibling who would like to race 2 miles, they will be holding a race for them in the middle of the meet.

Meet Schedule (Start time range, not duration of the race):

3:30pm Boys Varsity

3:50-4:00pm Girls Varsity

4:30-4:35pm Junior high/Elementary Race (2 Miles)

5:00-5:05pm JV Girls

5:25-5:30pm JV Boys

Practices this week

We are going to mix up our practice times a bit this coming week in order to allow our junior high kids to run with the rest of the team on A days (non-class days). So, on Tuesday at Thursday of next week we will have practices beginning at 3:15 at the usual place.

On class days, we will begin after school practices at the same time, just right after school.

(Reminder that we don't have school on Monday, this should be a day for you to go for a regular distance run, probably in the 50-60 minute range).

The percentage of max mileage next week should be 80-90%, and we are going to hover around that mileage for the next few weeks. We are keeping mileage high, but with more intensity, to allow for the right adaptations. Doing too many miles at this point can hurt recovery, impeding our quality in the short and long term, and too few miles won't allow you to see as much improvement. So this phase is aiming to hit that sweet spot, where you are feeling fatigued from quality workouts and races, but you're not also stretching to hit max mileage. We want the main stimulus to be the quality, and the secondary stimulus will be maintaining a good amount of mileage, rather than reaching for mileage and causing the quality to suffer. Hopefully I've explained the philosophy clearly.
