June 3rd Update - Beginning of XC 2024

 Phoenix,

We are eager to begin our long awaited summer training! I for one am super excited, and we have a really awesome summer planned.

This update has information about this week, upcoming weeks, and our XC camp that we will be doing at Snow College. At the end if you have any questions, please fill free to reach out.

Communication

If you have specific questions for me, the best way to contact me in the summer is via email at bjacobson@dsdmail.net - I get so many messages on groupme, that the site often trips out and doesn't show which ones are unread or not (I use it on my cpu mostly, and it's not flawless).

This Week

This week we will practice Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, with a captain-led run planned on Saturday. The location for that run is still tbd. You can view our training location/mileage for this short week in the chart below.

Our practice format will be as follows:

7 AM - team meeting

7:10 - team warm up

7:20 - team run and strides

8:10 - family core/plyometric and strength work (done in two stations of 10 minutes each: 1 for core, one for strength)

8:30ish - wrap up and depart

I'd like to quickly go from each item to the next, so that we can keep the aerobic stimulus up for the full 80ish minutes, which includes the warm up and the strength training.

Most Weeks

Most of the time we will be practicing Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Saturday. This week is just a little different. The Saturday runs will be long runs, led by the captains, with a team breakfast afterwards. The breakfasts will be hosted by parents who volunteer on our sign up genius. Parents, we aren't looking for an earth shattering breakfast, honestly anything you can put together would be more than appreciated. It doesn't have to be a feast, just something for the kids to have when they finish up. If you'd prefer host at a park rather than your home, we're all for it. Feel free to enlist the help of other parents, double up during a week. The run will begin at 7 AM, and the kids will be back before 8:30 in just about all cases. If you started breakfast at about 8:15 that would be perfect for most of our athletes.

Camp

I have arranged for a Cross Country camp this year at Snow College. We will stay in their dorms for a few nights, run on the trails, eat in their "mess hall" (that's not what it's called but I say things a little differently at times), play games, set team goals, and otherwise just have a blast.

The dates are the afternoon of 7/24 to the morning of 7/27.

The dorms have 5 beds per "suite" so to speak, so each suite will be divided by gender. The cost is going to be $30 per night, plus $10 per meal, so like another $80 if my math is sound. Which makes it around $170.

I'll send out more details on this in the coming days, I'll get the plan of the camp all put together, and so forth.

Here is the catch. Right now we only have 50 spots. Which means I need to know who wants to go, and if we have more than 50 interested I need to secure more space. Please fill out this form to let me know your interest level so I can plan accordingly.

Between our Saturday runs, heat training pickleball games that we're going to start up, our summer races (4th of July, Farmington Festival Days, Deseret News 10K (all optional)), our XC camp, and our amazing group of kids, this is going to be one of the best summers we've ever had at FHS, and I'm really looking forward to it.
