3/19 update

Phoenix,

As usual, there is a lot of information here, so please read it carefully - each week I have a number of kids ask me questions that are directly addressed here.

Farmington Super meet

This week we will be hosting our first meet of the season, which is an invitational. Because it is a smaller meet, we can enter our entire team, so all are able to compete.

The girls will be competing on Thursday and the boys will be managing the meet and making sure it runs smoothly. On Friday the boys will compete and the girls will work the meet. More on that below.

You can find the order of events/estimated time schedule here.

Because of the condition of the fields/shot put sector, we might be moving the throwing events to Davis. If that is the case those assigned to help in those areas would be moved to a different job, and those competing would need to help in various ways over there to make sure it goes smoothly.

Meet hosting standards

Our goal in hosting meets is to give those competing the best possible experience. I chose to host the Super Meet so that our entire team can have a chance to compete against quality competition early in he season, while learning how to host an efficient meet. Our program will also make some money on the meet which will allow us to purchase equipment (like replacing hurdles or adding poles for the vault) that we otherwise could not afford.

Part of the duties of being on the track team is helping at the meets we are hosting. Everyone who is in the class and who is on the team is expected to help, and to stay the entire time. Not helping/staying for the whole meet may result in you not being entered in the next meet. For those in the class, your grade is largely dependent on helping at the meet (each meet makes up about 10% of the grade). At the conclusion of the meet everyone will scan out.

Each person will be given a job with an assignment. Those jobs will go until everything is done at the meet. Once we are all done together, we will dismiss and go home.

I'm not motivated for the clean up and such to take forever, quite the contrary, I too want to go home and see my family. So let's all work together and get it done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Volunteers

As discussed previously, we have a page dedicated to ways that you can volunteer to help with meets, team dinners, etc.

For the meets we are hosting we have several things that we can use help with. For our meet on Thursday we could use some help working in the concession stand. We'll have kids there to help, but we really need an adult to be there too, and we don't have enough coaches to be everywhere.

If you are willing to help for a few hours, or even just for part of the meet, feel free to email me, or register on our volunteer sign up genius.

Practice Schedule

Monday Practice - REP Pro Athletes

On Monday we are going to have some professional runners, part of the Run Elite Program, which is a professional running group based in Utah, come and speak to us for about 30 minutes. After that they will join our distance runners for a run.

We will meet a 2:40 in the choir room, arrive on time and ready to run so we can go out and warm up as soon as they are done.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be normal practice days.

On Thursday we will set up for the meet during the track class, beginning at 1:15 as usual. On Friday, because we won't have a class, you will be excused at 1:30 so you can come out and help set up. I will let you know if that time changes.

As always, if you have any questions please let me know.
