9/8 update

Phoenix,

I apologize for a late update this week. I have a long list of things to do and little time to do it, so this one will be short and sweet.

For a recap of our races on Friday, go check out our instagram. So many great performances. Looking forward to what is next.

Skye Update

Skye is by no means out of the woods. She remains in the ICU and the nurses, doctors, and her family are working round the clock to help her in her healing. She has made steps to improve, but not everything has been linear, meaning there have been a few hiccups, but she is moving away from worst of it.

The way it is described is "she is not in recovery yet" which means that she is still in the thick of it. What that means for us is that we need to continue offering our support on her behalf and that of her family.

She has been moving a lot more, and some of those movements are really aggressive, you can imagine her confusion and eagerness to move her typically very active body. The nurses describe her as "very strong" when they talk about how she moves, and she is giving them a run for their money when they try to keep her from leaping out of bed - which wouldn't be great for her healing.

She regained consciousness for a little while there, but she was very confused, as is normal when coming off of sedation and with a severe brain injury, but she was talking a bit, which is remarkable and unusual. The nurses were shocked that she spoke so well. Unfortunately, the pressure in her brain raised too high during this time when she was conscious, so they had to put her back under to restabilize her.

That's where we are right now. Her mom describes her approach in an admirable way, and it is something that we all should do as well. The bottom line is that we will love Skye no matter how this journey proceeds, and we will always be proud of her. Rather than dwelling on the what-ifs, we should focus on how we feel about her, and how we will always feel. And in the meantime, let us hope, pray and, where we can, work for the best for her and her family.

This week

This week we have a meet on Saturday at Border Wars, which is an awesome meet. It's in Taylorsville, and we have a slight logistical problem: we won't be taking a bus. There were too many issues with bussing to this meet, so we decided not to do it. If that changes your status for being able to race, let me know ASAP. If you have space in your vehicle to take teammates/kids to the race, please make that known. I'm not allowed to facilitate rides, so talk to your teammates about it.

You can see the location and schedule on our schedule page.

Please look at the entries and make sure you are entered if you ought to be, or not entered if you shouldn't be.
