10/26 Update

Phoenix,

The state championship is upon us! We've worked extremely hard for this moment, so let's make the most of it.

We have had an eventful year, with some ups and downs. We've made progress together, evaluated our shortcomings, made adjustments, seen huge PRs, and much more. All of it has lead us to this moment, so let's make the most of it. For our seniors on the course, let's help them have the best day possible. For our underclassmen, let's help them set the bar high for their impending return.

We are excited for these 14 runners to represent our team. Each day at practice leads us to this point. Our hope is that each and every practice will lead us along the path back to being region and state champions. One day at a time. The state race is one more opportunity to move us in that direction.

First, for those who missed it, here are our state qualifiers:

Gabri May, Mary Snow, Sarah Miller, Shylie Thomas, Macie Newbold, McKenzie Hall, and Samantha Garrick.

Lincoln Barlow, Malachi Peterson, David Gourley, Micah Thornton, Will Prusse, Morgan Phippen, and Hudson Scott.

State Schedule

The boys will race at 2:30, followed by the girls at 3:15.

The buses will leave at 12:40.

Everyone on the XC team is encouraged to ride the buses and come support. They will be excused from their final period.

Everyone on the team is expected to be on the bus. As members of the team, you pull up to state to support our team. Underclassmen, to get a feel for the environment that you one day hope to race in. For everyone, to be the best support of the squad imaginable. School will be excused, work should be rescheduled. Simply put, be there.

After the race and after returning to the school we will go to dinner as a team at a location still to be determined (probably cafe rio or costa vida), so bring some money for that if you'd like to attend.

JV State

There is a JV state championship race on 11/1 that I am happy to sign anyone up for who is interested. I encourage everyone not racing at state to sign up for this race. Because it is after state, it is not an official UHSAA race, and we cannot provide a bus.

If you want to go, I need to know by Tuesday, otherwise I'm likely to forget with state going on. I highly recommend going to this race, as it's a lot of fun and very fast!

Howloween Half

Thank you so much to all of you who prioritized your team and gave up your Saturday to come volunteer at the races. The race director and his staff raved about your help, work ethic, and attitude. I am grateful that you helped put on such a fun event, and hope that you come back to race it after you graduate. Obviously we're hoping for it to get even bigger and more enjoyable for the whole community. We hope you enjoyed your time helping as well.

This week

So the schedule for this week is going to vary a bit based on what races you are in, either state or JV state, or nothing. Miles will then be added slightly, or subtracted slightly, depending on where you are. If you aren't racing - you'll want to add some. If you are racing, you may want to subtract some before your race.

Please note that on Tuesday there won't be regular classes on account of the junior Practice ACT. The captains have elected to have our practice at 3:30 so that we can run with the freshman team. We will meet at the regular spot at 3:30 PM on Tuesday.

As always, if you have questions, let us know.
