8/4 update

Phoenix,

The regular season is officially upon us. After 9 weeks of summer training, it is now, at long last, go time. Ironically we have about 9 weeks until region. To you young folk that probably sounds like a long time, but it really isn't that much time when it comes to training time. If you figure each week allows you to get slightly better, we have to maximize just how much better we can get each day. For you seniors, this is the final few weeks of xc at the high school level. For you underclassmen, this time of being young and having years ahead of you is fleeting. Trust me, if you put the work in now to set you up for years down the line, you will not regret it, and future you will thank you.

With the regular season beginning, we also bid farewell to our 8th graders who have trained with us this summer. We'll miss your energy and hard work - see you next year.

This week

Race

Our first race is Saturday at the Cottonwood complex. I'm going to send more information out about this race on Monday. You can view the race order on our schedule page, linked at the top of this page.

The information sent tomorrow will include race entries (which are subject to change based on eligibility and completion of registration on register my athlete), bus departure time, etc.

The bus will leave at 6:45 AM from the west side of the school.

The expectation at meets is that we are all there for the duration of the meet. We don't just show up, race, then leave. We are there to support our teammates during their races with gusto.

Eligibility and Registration

If you have not completed registration through register my athlete then you cannot compete this week. This is a state rule, not mine or the school's so please don't ask for exceptions.

The last few weeks I have been reminding you to get this done, and now it needs to be done. The athletic director needs to sign all of these off, so if you try to submit everything on Friday afternoon/evening, you likely won't be able to be signed off in time. The sooner you get it all submitted the better. TRUST ME.

You can view the instructions on how to register here (this was posted on the cross country overview page that we went over at the parent meeting and was subsequently re-sent out, and I've sent it the last few weeks).

Practice

We'll be practicing each day this week at 7 AM. Now that the season is underway, we're moving to daily practices. Attendance from here out will help determine participation in races and attendance to NXR. That said, I know some of you have family vacations and things these last couple of weeks before school starts, so we won't hold that against you - just email me the days you'll be gone.
