There were some amazing performances at BYU this past weekend. That meet is a ton of work for me and the other coaches, but it was worth it because of the great support, effort, and performances that you all showed down there.
Our boys 4x400 qualified for state, with a 12 second improvement on the year. Our girls 4x800 also qualified just barely, with a great team effort. Skye ran of blistering 5:07 in the mile to qualify for state, in addition to Sahara in the 100H, who joined Katrina (who's also in the LJ) with a qualifying time. Saige, Sierra, Tanner, Bode, and Spencer have all already qualified in their events as well.
Region Championships @ Davis High, Wednesday/Thursday
The region championships will be held on 5/10 and 11. Here is the meet schedule.
Once again we are limited on entries. The priority of entries will basically be cascading down based on who has the best chance of scoring in the meet, and on down until we are out of entries. Thankfully, many of you will be able to compete there. I hope to have those entries finalized by Monday night.
A few things to know before the meet:
1. Anyone who finishes in the top 5 of their event at region will qualify for state.
2. Anyone who hits the qualifying time for state will also qualify for state (assuming it is a legal mark, including wind for the applicable events).
3. We will be prioritizing our performance at state over region performances, so some of our top runners who have already qualified in certain events may not be racing in them, in an effort to save their legs.
4. All of our sprint relays, excluding the boys 4x400, still need to qualify for state, so we will be making those a priority so that those teams can qualify.
Team Pictures/Banquet
Our team banquet will be Tuesday 5/23 at 6:30 PM (time subject to change). In preparation for that, students, parents and coaches: please add pictures and video clips of track team members to the Track 2023 photo album HERE no later than May 14th. Valerie Albrechtsen will use some of them for our track team banquet slideshow. You may also give her a flash drive if that's easier.
Next week
Sophomore Region, 5/15 @ Farmington High
Sophomore region is a chance for those who didn't compete at region (primarily sophomores) to have a chance to compete against their peers. I'm not 100% sure on the rules here, but it seems in the past they've allowed others besides just sophomores to compete. If you've qualified for state, you will absolutely not be competing at this meet. More info to come.
State Championships 5/18, 20 @ BYU
The state championships will be held on Thursday 5/18 and Saturday 5/20 at BYU. There will be a bus going to this meet, and everyone is encouraged to come. It is not mandatory to ride the bus to state, but it is available. The state meet will offer partial extra credit for the track class to anyone who comes to support, and there will be one more opportunity for extra credit after state.
