Our goal in hosting meets is to give those competing and spectating the best possible experience. Our program will also make some money on the meet which will allow us to purchase equipment (like replacing hurdles or adding poles for the vault) that we otherwise could not afford.
Part of the duties of being on the track team is helping at the meets we are hosting. Everyone who is in the class and who is on the team is expected to help, and to stay the entire time. The last thing we want is only a few kids there to help clean up at the end of the meet while the rest have long since left. As my old man used to say, "many hands make light work." The truth is the cleanup is super fast when everyone is still there and helping. My goal is to dismiss everyone 15 minutes after the conclusion of the final event.
Not helping/staying for the whole meet may result in you not being entered in the next meet. For those in the class, your grade is largely dependent on helping at the meet from the start until the end (each meet makes up about 10% of the grade). At the conclusion of the meet everyone will scan out. If you do not scan out you will not receive credit for being there (I just can't keep track by memory alone). We will gather together as a group, line up, and scan out (I will also have my computer visible so you can verify that your name was registered). You may not scan for a friend or bring multiple ids for others, etc. That goes without saying, right?
Each person will be given a job with an assignment. Those jobs will go until everything is done at the meet. Once we are all done together, we will dismiss and go home. Your job may only be applicable at certain times of the meet (e.g. relay officials), but that doesn't mean you are off the hook. You should go find other ways that you can help - remember, our goal is to give those competing and spectating the best possible experience.
I'm not motivated for the clean up and such to take forever, quite the contrary, I too want to go home and see my family. So let's all work together and get it done as quickly and efficiently as possible.
