4/12 update

Phoenix,

I apologize for it being some time since I've posted an official update, but here it is now.

Phoenix Invite Recap

First, I want to thank you all so much for your work at the meets we have hosted this year. Aside from the fairly serious technical difficulties we confronted, the meet was pretty solid, with some excellent times from athletes on our team and all around.

More than anything I was proud of how you all stayed positive during the mayhem, and kept things fun for everyone. Shout out to our coaching staff who helped keep things moving by being organized, finding things that needed to be done, consolidating heats, etc. They deserve a big thank you as well.

For our team, we had 18 PRs, and 9 seasonal bests. We had 7 state qualifying performances (most of which were already qualified, but still). The boys 4x100 absolutely obliterated the school record, and stand in 2nd place in the state, a mere .16 behind first.

Thank you all again for all your help.

This week

Wednesday - Layton @ Farmington

This week we will be hosting Layton, and I can promise you that the meet will end earlier than Friday's. I'd bet my house on it. In fact if it isn't done by 6 I'll crash out harder than when I lost to Addy for the 3rd time in the 10 yard race.

Everyone who is not competing Saturday at the Davis Invitational will be loaded up in events that day. Talk to your event coaches about what you'll be doing there.

Thursday - TEAM DINNER

On Thursday, 6 PM, in the cafeteria, some parents have generously offered to host a team dinner for us. Please come if you are able, clear your schedules where possible, and come hang out with the team as the parents show you appreciation, and we them.

Saturday - Davis Invitational

On Saturday we will be going to the Davis Invitational at Davis High. There is not a bus to this meet. This meet is an all day affair. For those competing, and those not, plan to come hang out with the team, support your teammates, enjoy some cooler weather, and generally just vibe. Maybe even get absolutely crushed in Egyptian Ratscrew by me.

This meet still competes the medley relay, which is a 200, 200, 400, 800 relay, and we'd like to put a few teams in for it.

Here is the complication with this meet:

First, they accept X amount of people in each event. It's slightly different for each event. For the 100m, it's like 96 people. The fastest 8 of those people will run in the afternoon session, known as the invited section. The slower 88 will be in the morning session, known as the open session. Anyone entered for the meet, but not in that top X of entries, simply won't get in, and will be dropped.

You can see on sporttrax where you stand as of now, but you need to see the overview to know how many will be accepted. I think after tonight it will gray you out if you aren't accepted. We will know more on Tuesday if you made it in or not, and plan our entries from there, accordingly.

Take a look at your entries, which may be adjusted, based on what we want to prioritize. Look at the schedule, and let your event coaches if there is anything you cannot be in based on the time. If you are in the top X-12, you might be moved to the invited section, so look at those times too and make sure you could attend them, and let us know if you have conflict (e.g. you are catching a flight at 6 PM, a 5 PM event won't work - not e.g., you have an ice cream date at 6 PM, move that silliness to Friday, or later on Saturday and don't be a simp.)

Wrap up

Fam, children of light, etc. Our season is simultaneously ramping up and winding down. Summer feels like forever from now, but it's right around the corner. You remember Footlocker? Christmas break? Indoor? Simplot? All of those are way further in the past than summer is in the future. Time is short my friends. Capitalize. Appreciate. Enjoy. Reassess. Decide. Lock in. "I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days, before you've actually left them." - Andy Bernard.

Although there are better days ahead (way better baby) these still count as the good old days, because the time you share together is something that will never ever be quite the same. Seniors will move to bigger and better things. Underclassmen will be in their shoes very soon - don't wait until later to be completely committed, decide now and reap the rewards later. Most of all, enjoy your current time together, while staying excited for what's ahead.

If you have any questions please let me know.
